A water crossing that felt uneventful can still push water and grit into places the machine was not built to handle for long. A short list checked afterward catches most of the follow-on problems before they become expensive ones.
Water finds its way past seals more easily than most riders expect, and once it mixes with gear oil it stops doing its job. A fluid check after a deep or repeated crossing is worth the few minutes it takes.
A boot that was already nicked or aging can let water and grit into the joint during a crossing, and a contaminated CV joint wears out quickly once that happens. Check boots for tears any time you have been through water.
Bearings are another common entry point for water, and a bearing that has taken on moisture will usually announce itself with noise before it fails outright — but by then the damage is already done.
As covered elsewhere, sustained submersion is hard on a belt. A crossing deep enough to reach the belt housing is worth a look at the belt afterward, not just a shrug.
Repeated deep crossings, or one crossing deeper than the machine is rated for, is a reasonable point to have a shop check the above rather than assuming everything sealed the way it was supposed to.
